It's just after 10 AM on a Monday morning. The first thing I do on a working day is check my emails. So far I've had one from an agency regarding a revision job; I told them that if I have to stipulate a delivery date, it will be three days after confirmation of the order, although in practice I might sent the corrected/revised text back the same day or within twenty-four hours. I've also delivered one translation a direct client sent me on Friday. Hopefully my inbox will now stay quiet until af... See more

Hopefully my inbox will now stay quiet until after 12 o'clock, so that I can finish another revision (or "proofing" if you like) I've just started...Collapse

I've just read all non-junk messages and deleted all spam entries...

Those that count have been read, I do not take any note of the rest.

Had quite a few this morning May 8, 2017

It's Monday morning, so I have received quite a few. I have set a filter, so certain senders are automatically deleted to the trash, but I can still look at the subject line to see if they interest me.

What statistic are you trying to arrive at here? May 8, 2017

Anyone responding to this poll must be sitting in front of a computer (or iPad, or smartphone) which displays an icon when mail is waiting, and will almost certainly have answered any emails that have come in before making an entry here. So the fact that the vast majority answers "No" is no indication of the average number of those who leave emails unanswered for a considerable time.

I tend to answer them as they come in. If I don't have time, I flag them, but at least I will have looked at them.

It would be nice to be able to let them pile up, but when I do that, almost invariably I miss out on a work opportunity.

I don't read any of my emails. I don't even have a computer.

Stupid answer for a stupid question.

I have three but I know what they are and they don't require a response.

I have plenty of "unread" emails. But actually they have been read and answered, and I use emails and categories to manage workflow.

I check emails obsessively, on the basis that one day there may be something interesting.

"Checking" emails May 8, 2017

As a side note, I do hope none of you chek your emails the old fashionned way, by opening up a brower tab to go to the provider's site.
If you do, get an email client and let it run in the background.

I know May 8, 2017

There are 481 unread emails, to be precise. Most of them are newsletters, announcements, notifications, and the like. ALL emails that are personally addressed to me are usually read within 0.01-60 minutes during work hours.

I keep only e-mails of pending jobs, pending payments or some other type of pending action or reply in my inbox. As soon as the e-mails are replied or the job is delivered, they go to the respective archive folders. I simply cannot understand how someone can live with 300 e-mails in their inbox. I am very organized, and I would die of desperation if I was so disorganized as to have more than 20 emails in my inbox. There is no feasible reason for that. And to my standards, it's unacceptable. The same people who do that are the ones with piles of papers on top of their desks. I'd have to find another profession if I were not able to work with a clean desk and a clean inbox.Collapse
